Aerodynamics
NASCAR race cars are built with aerodynamics to create the best performance on the track. We learned that aerodynamics are also important in understanding airplane design, and kites. To review the 3D's review this link.
Fitness: Pedometers
Our class is getting fit this spring! We are wearing pedometers from March 18 - April 1. We are setting personal goals to improve our understanding of our baseline fitness and then determine what the impact is on our overall well being. Students will be logging their data on a google form which is accessible from any device - or they can log it in their agenda and then record it on Tuesday and Friday when we are on laptops in class. I'm excited for students to see that small choices can have great benefit. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Students can use their own pedometers, or they need to pay attention to their activity patterns and record them into the form as well. Our goal is to be mindful of our activity levels. Watch out parents, they just might challenge you! Here is the link for the form.
Mystery location
On Friday, September 19 we had a FaceTime chat with 5th grade friends at Forest Hill Elementary School. Each class did not know anything going into the chat. Ms. Haughs and myself had arranged the time and had told our classes we would be meeting another group of students. They then created 20 questions to determine the exact location and grade of the other class. It was an opportunity for our students to see that citizenship in the classroom and over the Internet are the same; students need to be respectful of one another, the impression they make matters, and going forward is dependent on how well the other person perceives you are going to be respectful of them.
Our class will have an opportunity to be pals with Ms. Haughs class all year long. We will be big buddies and discuss math, science, and art. We will be doing on-line galleries, and hopefully we will get to have a fieldtrip together. I'm excited about the possibilities and look forward to building positive relationships with other classes all over the world.

PC Pals
Intel Corporation has been working with my students over the last year to foster Common Core mindset. This program allows Intel employees to interact with my class via the Internet. We use the email program Gaggle. I oversee all communication to ensure its safety and help students build appropriate boundaries. Students also learn how to write an email and demonstrate respect through their writing. Parents will receive a permission slip which must be signed in order for a student to participate. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.
